This is an original oil painting (9"x 12") that was done as a commission. It is Morris Island Lighthouse, off Folly Beach, SC. The lighthouse is now out of use due to its age, but restoration is being done on it today. The lighthouse originally sat 1 mile inland, but today is usually in water at high tide. The tiny Morris Island is a wonderful place to gather shells due to it being only accessible by boat. This painting was commissioned by someone who loves the shells she has gathered there and the wonderful old lighthouse. She wanted to emphasize the shells she loves from this island and that is why they are enlarged and on the side of the painting.
A lifetime resident of Salem, Virginia, (USA) Julie Riffey found her love of art around the age of five. Her talent developed from childhood crayons and pencils to the oil, acrylic, and soft pastel paintings she produces today. She has an Associate Degree in Fine Art from Virginia Western College and in the past, has taught children's art classes for 7 to 10 year olds. The enjoyment of seeing artistic talent evolve in children is unparalleled. She hopes that she instilled a love of art in those children for a lifetime. Julie uses a variety of mediums: oil, acrylic, soft chalk pastel and pencil. She paints or draws landscapes, birds, animals, and portraits- all in the realistic style.
