"Fancy Feathers" 16 x 20" Oil on canvas. This is a barnyard boss who has some pretty fancy feathers. He has a right to feel pretty proud of himself. Painting this as an adult, I can see how beautiful this bird is. However, as a child, I used to be terrified of the rooster in my Granny's hen house. She used to send me to the hen house to gather the eggs. I would go into the hen house and gather the eggs but as I left with the eggs, the rooster would run out from under the hen house and chase me out of the fenced in yard squawking and flapping his wings! It was scary for me as a kid and I had to venture into the chicken yard many times, always keeping a wary eye out for this guy!
A lifetime resident of Salem, Virginia, (USA) Julie Riffey found her love of art around the age of five. Her talent developed from childhood crayons and pencils to the oil, acrylic, and soft pastel paintings she produces today. She has an Associate Degree in Fine Art from Virginia Western College and in the past, has taught children's art classes for 7 to 10 year olds. The enjoyment of seeing artistic talent evolve in children is unparalleled. She hopes that she instilled a love of art in those children for a lifetime. Julie uses a variety of mediums: oil, acrylic, soft chalk pastel and pencil. She paints or draws landscapes, birds, animals, and portraits- all in the realistic style.
