Oil on canvas.Original was 5" x7." I painted this for a friend at her request several years ago. She was feeling lost & depressed over loneliness and her illness. Really sad. She identified with this image. Sadly she passed away in Dec. 2013. from cancer. On the back of this painting, on the frame, I wrote that she was never alone and her friends would be there for her to "row her to shore" when she was feeling adrift.
A lifetime resident of Salem, Virginia, (USA) Julie Riffey found her love of art around the age of five. Her talent developed from childhood crayons and pencils to the oil, acrylic, and soft pastel paintings she produces today. She has an Associate Degree in Fine Art from Virginia Western College and in the past, has taught children's art classes for 7 to 10 year olds. The enjoyment of seeing artistic talent evolve in children is unparalleled. She hopes that she instilled a love of art in those children for a lifetime. Julie uses a variety of mediums: oil, acrylic, soft chalk pastel and pencil. She paints or draws landscapes, birds, animals, and portraits- all in the realistic style.
